Mediante un ejercicio de memoria histórica, este libro reúne los testimonios de 19 personas que, entre los años 1999 y 2005, fueron capturadas arbitrariamente por miembros de la fuerza pública colombiana en el municipio de El Carmen de Bolívar y sindicadas de pertenecer a grupos guerrilleros. La principal intención de las víctimas, al contar sus historias, es reafirmar su inocencia y que estas páginas se conviertan en un llamado a restaurar su buen nombre. Las víctimas narran lo que significaron esos días o meses en prisión, qué impacto tuvo la detención en sus familias, cómo se transformaron sus vidas y cómo lograron salir adelante en medio de las adversidades económicas y llevando encima el estigma de haber estado en prisión, señaladas de pertenecer a la guerrilla. A estos testimonios los acompaña un reportaje que da cuenta del contexto histórico y jurídico de las detenciones arbitrarias en la región de Montes de María, un estudio sobre la actuación y la responsabilidad de la prensa al informar sobre estos casos y un análisis sobre la evidente vulneración del derecho que tienen estas víctimas a acceder a archivos y expedientes oficiales que resultaron de las capturas y que resumen e informan sobre el estado de sus investigaciones. Todos estos insumos son el resultado del trabajo realizado por Dejusticia durante los años 2017 y 2018 en esta región del país.
