Este informe presenta un diagnĂłstico de la situaciĂłn de los cuidados paliativos en ocho paĂ­ses de AmĂ©rica Latina (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, PanamĂĄ y Uruguay), con especial atenciĂłn en el desarrollo institucional y el acceso a medicamentos controlados. AsĂ­ mismo, recoge los resultados de una investigaciĂłn realizada con el objetivo de dar cuenta la situaciĂłn actual de los cuidados paliativos en ocho paĂ­ses de LatinoamĂ©rica. El objetivo general del proyecto —generar conciencia e incidencia en polĂ­tica pĂșblica sobre la necesidad de abordar los cuidados paliativos incorporando una perspectiva de derechos humanos— se vio realizado en el acercamiento entre profesionales de diversos ĂĄmbitos en la regiĂłn, lo que en sĂ­ mismo es un avance para integrar las comunidades que defienden los derechos de los pacientes, asĂ­ como las comunidades que abogan por una polĂ­tica de drogas centrada en un enfoque de salud pĂșblica. Esperamos que, como informe de diagnĂłstico, sea Ăștil para las asociaciones profesionales, los profesionales de la salud, los defensores de los derechos de los pacientes, los activistas de reforma a la polĂ­tica de drogas y los tomadores de decisiones, con el fin de integrar de mejor manera los cuidados paliativos a los servicios generales de salud, asĂ­ como de usar un lenguaje de derechos humanos para avanzar en estos cambios de polĂ­tica pĂșblica y garantizar de manera integral los derechos humanos de las personas en situaciĂłn de dolor y sufrimiento en las AmĂ©ricas.
