Desde el comienzo una premisa animó la investigación de la que es resultado este libro: si bien durante el conflicto en las capas urbanas hemos visto predominantemente fotografías hechas por fotoperiodistas —sobre todo a partir de los años más intensos, luego de la década de 1980—, mientras la confrontación se prolongó otras personas implicadas directamente en la contienda también hicieron fotos. Hay otras miradas que por mucho tiempo permanecieron ocultas y que apenas, recientemente, empezamos a conocer. Existen fotografías producidas durante la guerra que aún no hemos visto y quién sabe si algún día las veremos. Una de las propuestas que se explotan a partir del archivo conformado durante la investigación es que la práctica fotográfica y, evidentemente, las fotografías instituyen un campo visual, un espacio común.
