Este libro es producto de uno de los ejercicios más bellos y rigurosos de los que se han llevado a cabo en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia sede Medellín, como quiera que integró las capacidades académicas, técnicas y humanas de estudiantes, profesores y directivas de las cinco facultades: Arquitectura; Ciencias; Ciencias Agrarias; Ciencias Humanas y Económicas; Minas. Todas ellas se vieron reflejadas en la conceptualización, materialización y habitabilidad del prototipo a escala real de vivienda sostenible para el trópico. Conceptos como diseño reflexivo, bioclimática, eficiencia energética, ecomateriales, aprovechamiento de aguas lluvia, agricultura urbana, convivencia social y manejo ambientalmente responsable del paisaje urbano, quedaron plasmados en la casa que hoy, siete años después, se integra al campus de El Volador con un desempeño óptimo desde lo estético y lo funcional. Cada capítulo es una reflexión, una historia contada de lo mucho que los estudiantes, profesores y directivas de una Universidad pueden hacer en pro de una vivienda digna, alegre y factible para comunidades de Colombia.
