Veränderte Arbeitsverhältnisse (Prekarisierung), veränderte Kommunikationsformen (Neue Medien), Umbrüche in den Geschlechterverhältnissen und eine wachsende soziale Marginalisierung gehen nicht spurlos an Individuen vorüber. "Transformationen des Selbst" stehen ihrerseits in einem engen Zusammenhang mit übergreifenden sozialen Veränderungen.
