Anlass war eine interdisziplinäre Konferenz des Sir Peter Ustinov-Instituts in Wien, bei der Historiker, Politik- und Sozialwissenschaftler sowie Psychologen die Wurzeln und Wirkungen von Vorurteilen und Feindbildern als Triebkräfte in Gesellschaft und Politik analysierten.Die Genese von Ressentiments, die Rolle von Minderheiten, Verlust- und Bedrohungsängste in der Mehrheit, die Eskalation von Feindbildern in öffentlicher Gewalt werden ebenso thematisiert wie Abwehrstrategien gegen "Fremde" oder "Andere". Gemeinsames Ziel der Beiträge ist es, Ursachen aktueller Konflikte zu erkennen und Lösungen zu finden.
