Am Beispiel von Indien und Indonesien verdeutlicht er aber auch, weshalb multiethnische Konflikte nicht notwendigerweise in systematische Gewalt münden müssen.Die historisch-soziologische Analyse dieser Fälle zielt darauf ab, systematische Erkenntnisse und theoretische Erklärungen für die Entstehung mörderischer ethnischer Säuberungen herauszuarbeiten – nicht zuletzt, um politische Maßnahmen zu deren Verhinderung zu erarbeiten.
