Ungefähr eine Million Frauen kämpften von 1941 bis 1945 Seite an Seite mit über 30 Millionen Männern in der Roten Armee gegen die deutschen Truppen. In der Etappe wie auch in Frontpositionen leisteten sie als Sowjetbürgerinnen ihren Dienst an der Waffe und waren ebenso wie die Männer den Repressionen durch die eigene Führung und den Strapazen des Frontalltags unterworfen. Aber mehr noch: Sie waren vonseiten ihrer Kameraden zum Teil massiven sexuellen Belästigungen ausgesetzt.Bischl analysiert diese spezifische strukturelle Konstellation, in der unter den Bedingungen des Frontraums ein Männlichkeitsdiskurs hegemonial wurde, der auf Gewaltfähigkeit und (sexueller) Potenz beruhte. Ohne das Wissen um diese radikalisierten Geschlechterverhältnisse im Frontalltag lassen sich – so Bischl – die massenhaften durch Rotarmisten verübten Vergewaltigungen am Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs nicht verstehen.
