Schuld daran ist das Verhalten des Menschen, der Naturräume, Nutztiere, Wildtiere und Pflanzen komplett seinen eigenen Interessen unterwirft. Cruise fordert ein grundsätzliches Umdenken: Der Mensch muss sich zurückziehen, Nutzflächen renaturieren, eine nachhaltige Landwirtschaft betreiben, auf den Handel und den Verzehr von Wildtieren verzichten. Im typischen Adam-Cruise-Stil ziseliert der Autor anekdotenreich und zugänglich die ethischen und praktischen Fragestellungen heraus. Er konfrontiert die Politik – und noch eindringlicher jeden Einzelnen von uns – mit unseren Wahlmöglichkeiten. «Wir Menschen müssen unser Verhalten ändern», so Cruise, «andernfalls könnte das Schicksal der Dinosaurier auch uns ereilen.
