Haiti ist der Ort, an dem 1804 zum ersten Mal die Sklaverei dauerhaft abgeschafft und damit die Ideale der Französischen Revolution auf radikale Weise weitergedacht wurden. Dieses weltbedeutende Ereignis taucht im öffentlichen Diskurs über Haiti heute nur wenig auf, stattdessen dominieren Superlative der Misere, die dem Land, seiner Literatur und seiner Geschichte nicht gerecht werden. Angesichts dessen möchte diese Studie aus einer post-kolonialen Perspektive einen Beitrag dazu leisten, Haiti als literarischen und Denkraum für ein globales und gerechteres Zusammenleben sichtbar zu machen.Im Fokus stehen dabei vier französischsprachige, haitianische Romane, die nach dem Ende der gewaltvollen Duvalierära (1957-1986) erschienen sind, und die sich auf unterschiedliche Weise Fragen von Vergemeinschaftung und Zusammenleben widmen. Es wird gezeigt, wie die Texte Schlüsselbegriffe der französischen Aufklärung aufgreifen, kommentieren und transformieren, historische Erfahrungen diskutieren und dabei über die Grenzen Haitis hinaus mögliche (neue) Formen des Zusammenlebens entwerfen.
