Nur eine dünne Zeltwand trennt ihn von der Außenwelt. Es sind gut 20 Grad unter null: Er kann das Eis hören. Es knackt, reißt, rauscht und kracht. Anders als man annehmen könnte, handelt es sich bei der Arktis keinesfalls um eine eintönige Landschaft. Dünen aus Eis werden meterhoch vom Wind aufgetürmt wie der Sand in der Sahara. Im Zentrum Grönlands erreicht das Eis eine Dicke von drei Kilometern, um sich dann zur Küste hin auf wenige hundert Meter zu verringern und ähnlich einem Fluss perlender Lava in den Ozean zu fließen. Wer denkt, Eis sei weiß, der täuscht sich. Das geduldige Auge erkennt Hunderte von Farben und Schattierungen. An den Polen sind nur wenige Grad Temperaturunterschied ausschlaggebend, selbst ein Grad kann das System komplett verändern. Das schmelzende Eis beeinflusst nicht nur die Weltmeere, sondern auch die Flora und Fauna direkt vor unserer Tür. Vor unseren Augen formt der Klimawandel das Eis an Nord- und Südpol und damit die Zukunft unserer Welt, in der wir leben.
