About this book
Born in 1890 in Varanasi, Jaishankar Prasad started writing in prose and poetry when modern Hindi Literature was coming out of its cradle. He is reckoned to be one of the progenitors of the 'Chayavad', a new school of poetry then, which took the Hindi world by storm. His new imagery, symbols and expression created an indelible impact on the mind of the discerning readers. He wrote profusely many short stories, plays, essays and of course peoms. His creation 'Kamayani' is believed to be a masterly book of poetry epitomising the essence of Indian culture and human phychology. He died in 1937 in Varanasi at an early age. But within his short creative period he gave certain gems to the Indian Literature which will keep his name glittering in the firmament of Indian Creative Writing.
