This thesis investigates the thermal cleaning of municipal bottom slags using submerged arc furnaces. The objective is twofold: first, to recover valuable metal that cannot be efficiently separated through mechanical methods, and second, to condition the mineral fraction to be used as raw material in the construction industry. Conducted as part of the European project New-Mine, this research contributes to a broader initiative aimed at transforming landfill municipal waste into usable products. The mineral products generated in this study were subsequently tested in other research projects, focusing on developing eco-friendly building materials through inorganic polymers and glass-ceramic techniques.
