S'estava obrint en aquell temps un abisme, ja anunciat anys abans per Rimbaud i Mallarmé, per Nietzsche i per Graus, que distanciaria per sempre l'experiència de les paraules. Aquest llibre, guardonat amb el XV Premi a la Investigació en Comunicació de Masses del Consell de l'Audiovisual de Catalunya (CAC), proposa una descripció i una análisi d'aquesta crisi lingüística postmoderna i n'aplica el diagnòstic i els possibles remeis a dues crisis més, de carácter més disciplinari i reduït: la crisi del periodisme i la crisi de la teoria del periodisme.
