Bei der Betrachtung risikosoziologischer Ansätze findet die Systemtheorie nach Niklas Luhmann besondere Beachtung, ebenso werden Luhmanns Vorschläge zur systemischen Betrachtung sozialer Bewegungen aufgegriffen. Untersucht wird, wie die Gesellschaft allgemein über Risiken kommuniziert, wie sie diese dadurch konstruiert und in welcher Weise sich die Kommunikation über Risiken verändert, wenn Protestbewegungen daran beteiligt sind. Diese Erkenntnisse werden dann auf die deutsche Anti-AKW-Bewegung angewendet.
