The idealism of the labourer is attributed to the conditions caused by mechanical devices, which, on their introduction, tend to destroy his individuality. The author treats of the machine as the groundwork of economic and ethical theory and of the modern Labour movement. This book will be of interest to students and researchers of economic history.
