This volume is a full-length work of reportage chronicling the forty-year career of Jin Haixia— one of the Ministry of Education' s first distinguished principals of primary and secondary schools, a national outstanding educator, and head of the Democratic Education Group in Kaiyuan City. Through vivid anecdotes, the book reveals how Jin Haixia and her team remained unswerving in their mission, persisting in their educational vision, and, through forty years of practice, successfully developed a replicable and exemplary school-based model for achieving high-quality, balanced education in economically underdeveloped counties. This model has since influenced compulsory education schools across many provinces and cities in China. Gu Mingyuan, honorary president of the Chinese Society of Education, has praised it as a successful example of deepening reform in China' s basic education.
The book portrays an " educational poem" in which one individual leads a collective, combining initiative and wisdom to cultivate education deeply rooted in Chinese soil. It stands as a representative case of advancing high-quality development in contemporary Chinese basic education. In 2023, the book was commended by the Fourth Central Steering Group for Thematic Education as " an outstanding model of fully implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping' s important discourse on advancing the five educations in parallel and providing education satisfactory to the people."
In September 2024, Jin Haixia, as a representative of exemplary collectives and individuals in the national education system, traveled to Beijing for the National Education Conference marking the fortieth Teachers' Day. She was cordially received by General Secretary Xi Jinping and other Party and state leaders.
The book has received the 2024 Liaoning Provincial Special Fund for Publishing Excellence, was selected as one of the " Good Books of Liaoning" for the third quarter of 2024, and was included on the China Publishing & Media Journal' s list of influential titles for the same quarter, the China Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Journal' s recommended list, and the China Reading Weekly' s " Top 100 Books of the Year." Its audiobook edition has accumulated over ten million clicks online, with more than 1.41 million plays on the " Xuexi Qiangguo" platform. Since its release, nearly thirty thousand copies have been sold, generating both significant social and economic impact.
