This book has been written strictly in accordance with the syllabus prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), following the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India for the compulsory inclusion of Environmental Studies at the undergraduate level. Since all affiliated colleges of Indian universities have recently adopted this subject, the present volume has been carefully designed to meet the academic requirements of students in a comprehensive yet student-friendly manner. The book aims to provide maximum information in a clear, concise, and systematic form. While maintaining depth and accuracy, special efforts have been made to condense the content without compromising its academic value, keeping in view the limitations of the book's size. To encourage further learning, an exhaustive list of reference books has been suggested for additional reading. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) have been included to help students strengthen their conceptual understanding, enhance analytical skills, and improve examination preparedness. Special mention must be made of the valuable contributions by Dr. (Ms.) Ahana Satyanarayan and Mr. Sanjeev Satyanarayan for their lucid presentation of the topics Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and E-Waste. The meticulous computer-based compilation of data by Mr. Shrikant Shadangule is also highly appreciable. This book is expected to be useful and interesting for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as learners of environmental studies at various levels.
