Cet article, qui ne pourra pas ne pas vous rappeler l'affaire de Roswell, relate la découverte, aux États-Unis, pres du Pic James, d'un aérolithe et de son occupant, provenant de la planete Mars. On peut facilement imaginer l'effet que produisit cet article? Ce canular, présenté le plus sérieusement du monde et que n'aurait pas désavoué Orson Welles, se prolongea pendant six mois, et aboutit finalement a la publication du présent livre en avril-mai 1865, aux éditions Hetzel. Ce roman est le premier écrit «d'importance», a notre connaissance, concernant l'ufologie moderne, qui n'est en fait pas si moderne que cela puisque ce texte a été écrit, il y a 143 ans...
