Deuteronomy 1:6–30:20 is a single rhetorical unit revolving around the theme of Yahweh's grace displayed in the provision of land, providing the Torah, and renewing the covenant. Moses addresses the issues of Israel's lack of faith and memory, which continually leads to their rebellion and disobedience. His rhetorical intention is to lead his listeners to trust Yahweh's grace to overcome their defects; thus, he skilfully employs the rhetorical strategies of appeal through characterization, invoking emotions, and logical arguments.
