Those Devils In Baggy Pants

About this book

''Those Devils in Baggy Pants'' is a renowned World War II memoir written by Ross S. Carter, an elite paratrooper in the United States military. Originally published in 1951, the book delivers a raw, firsthand account of frontline combat across Europe. It is widely celebrated as one of the finest autobiographies of the war. Ross S. Carter was a decorated soldier who served in Company C of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. Carter was one of only three surviving members of his original 40-man platoon. The moniker "Devils in Baggy Pants" stems from an entry found in the diary of a German officer. The officer used the phrase to describe the fierce fighting tactics of the American paratroopers at the Anzio beachhead. Carter wrote the book shortly after the war but died of cancer in 1947 at just 28 years old.
