Carnap und Neurath zĂ€hlten zu den wichtigsten Vertretern des sog. »Wiener Kreises«, der die Philosophie des 20. Jahrhunderts entscheidend und weit ĂŒber die deutschsprachigen LĂ€nder hinaus beeinflusste. Ihre reichhaltige und lebendige Korrespondenz ist ein eindrucksvolles Dokument der philosophischen Freundschaft zweier grundverschiedener Persönlichkeiten. Die Briefe berĂŒhren neben Fragen der Einheitswissenschaft, des Physikalismus und der Protokollsatzdiskussion auch allgemeine (philosophie-)historische Reflexionen, wissenschaftsorganisatorische Fragen und die Schwierigkeiten eines Lebens im Exil. Ab 1939 wechselten die Korrespondenzpartner die Sprache und schrieben sich auf Englisch.
Aus den rund 600 erhaltenen Briefen wurden die philosophisch, historisch und biografisch relevanten ausgewĂ€hlt und durch Einleitung, Kommentare, Bibliografie und Register erschlossen. Auch Neuraths berĂŒhmte Elefantenzeichnungen sind im Band mit abgebildet.
