Ce Que Lit L'Enfant en Cote D'Ivoire
About this book
This book analyses Ivorian literary books for children as a means of communication and a tool for the socialization of children serving the transmission of social norms and values in a post- colonial context marked by globalisation and cultural hybridity. The aim was to understand how these books contribute to the construction of the child's imagination and therefore to his or her cultural identity. The research is based on a lexico-thematic and semiological analysis of a corpus of children's albums, tales and novels published between 1988 and 2020. It appears that the children's fiction book conveys a system of values based on respect for institutions such as family, nature, friendship and tradition. The tension, sometimes not assumed, between tradition and modernity leads to a kind of cultural hybridity perceptible in the relations between the city and the village. The persistence of gender stereotypes and the use of nouchi reveal the consideration of social and contextual realities that reinforce the didactic character of children's fiction books.
