There are two ways of studying the Bible. There is devotional study of the Bible, as it is done in Churches in the form of "Bible Study." The main objective is to draw lessons from the Bible and apply it to one's life. There is also the scientific study of the Bible, an academic study of the Bible. In this sense the Bible is studied critically as an ancient writing, with the modern scientific method of interpretation of ancient writings (Hermeneutics), which throws light on the historical background of the writing, the author, his culture, the language he used, the circumstances in which he wrote, the problem(s) he was addressing, the literary style he used in addressing the problem(s), etc. This book is thus a scientific study of the Bible, an academic study of the Bible, a hermeneutical study of the Bible, as it is done in educational institutions.
