Christian leaders are living longer, and more are finishing poorly, if at all. Consequently, it is time for Christian leaders who live long and finish well to be heard and heeded. David McKenna is one of those leaders. At the age of ninety-seven and after thirty-three years of successful presidencies at Spring Arbor University, Seattle Pacific University, and Asbury Theological Seminary, he reaches into his experience to give readers working principles that apply to every stage and situation in the annals of Christian leadership, whether in the church, the academy, or the culture. McKenna takes readers behind the scenes of situations that he faced as a college, university, and seminary president, with ready application to any setting where the competence and integrity of Christian leadership is put to the test. Out of these experiences, then, McKenna draws working principles that apply especially in a volatile age of uncertainty in the church and hostility in the culture. The result is not futility but humility, along with the evidence of success. So, take heart, young and mature leaders in the faith. The proof for living long and finishing well is on the side of Christian leaders who are compatriots with David McKenna.
