The question that preoccupies countless minds is, probably, “will violence completely thwart the capacity for hope and love?” Additionally many people react to injustices committed in our heartless world by feeling impotent and dispirited, and by becoming, at least most of the time, apathetic, indifferent, and, they think, invulnerable.
In this book, Louis Roy endeavors to ground hope and love. To do so, he has recourse to wise women and men that have decided, with insight and courage, to make a difference in their life and in their society. This book therefore consists of a dialogue with competent psychologists, philosophers, and theologians, for instance Donald Evans, Josef Pieper, Gabriel Marcel, St. Augustine, and St. Thomas Aquinas. The first two chapters are on hope, while the last two chapters are on love. Chapter 1 makes a case for hope, and chapter 3 makes a case for love, whereas chapters 2 and 4 discuss objections to hope and to love.
