Le prĂ©sent ouvrage tente de combler ce vide Ă partir d'une question aussi simple qu'immense: en ce tournant de millĂ©naire, comment s'exprime la tension tradition-modernitĂ© chez des femmes qu'une double rĂ©fĂ©rence Ă l'altĂ©ritĂ© et Ă l'infĂ©rioritĂ© de genre -- autochtones, francophones vivant en milieu minoritaire en migrantes des villes et des pays -- condamne Ă des particularismes ethniques, linguistiques ou culturels consubstantiels au statut de « traditionnelles opprimĂ©es ». Regroupant des chercheurs dont les intĂ©rĂȘts et itinĂ©raires illustrent la diversitĂ© et les convergences de la recherche fĂ©ministe francophone, l'ouvrage explore les construits socioculturels qui orientent Ă la fois l'interprĂ©tation du monde et l'action sociale de ces trois groupes de femmes. Dans un contexte marquĂ© par l'Ă©mergence/rĂ©surgence d'affirmations identitaires multiples, le terme tradition revĂȘt des connotations antinomiques selon qu'il est utilisĂ© comme prisme interprĂ©tatif de l'Autre (l'immigrante, la francophone, la femme pauvre), comme rĂ©fĂ©rence Ă des structures sociales patriarcales et oppressives, ou encore comme catalyseur d'un passĂ© rĂ©volu qu'on cherche Ă rĂ©actualiser en rĂ©ponse aux difficultĂ©s associĂ©es au monde moderne. Si chaque cas comporte une part de recyclage culturel, son contenu n'est jamais fixĂ© une fois pour toutes, mais est portĂ©, au contraire, par un effort de crĂ©ativitĂ© syncrĂ©tique refusant les Ă©tiquettes stigmatisantes du modernisme, du passĂ©isme et de l'infĂ©riorisation, y compris celle de populations « vulnĂ©rables ».
