SELF-TREATMENT
First-Aid Kit
The following suggestions may be helpful in making up your own first-aid kit. You could buy a ready-made kit, or construct your own. Rather like spices, you may have your favourites, but become more adventurous as your homeopathic experience and taste grows; e.g. you may feel like treating travel sickness with tabacum and keep this remedy solely for that purpose. Sticking to a small group of remedies at first will help ensure which are most useful for you. So, make up your own personalised ‘desert island/solo voyage’ kit!
Aconite
•shock, such as an accident or animal bite
•if starting to come down with a cold or ‘flu, at the first sign
Arnica
•trauma of any kind, including surgery and dental procedures
•bruises (tablets and cream)
Belladonna
•sudden onset of fever and flushes
•earache
Cantharis
•burns, scalds, sunburn, cystitis (tablets and lotion for compress)
Chamomilla
•teething
•frantic, angry, crying children who won’t be put down (pain or colic)
Colocynth
•painful colic
Euphrasia
•hayfever affecting the eyes (tablets and eyedrops)
•any discomfort or inflammation of the eyes (drops)
Gelsemium
•flu-like, chilly or shivery symptoms
Hypericum
•crush injuries such as a trapped finger
Ledum
•insect stings or bites
•black eye
Nux Vomica
•hang-over
•indigestion from over-indulgence
Pulsatilla
•persistent thick, non-irritating catarrh
Symphytum
•to help heal any bone fracture, along with trauma remedies like arnica and calendula

•nettle stings or irritation from plants
•hives (tablets and cream)

You don’t have to have all of the symptoms listed below for each remedy to be helpful. Often, it’s just the single unusual feature of symptoms which allows the successful prescription of a particular remedy.
