Die Reform der Agrarpolitik gehört heute zu den schwierigsten Aufgaben der Europäischen Union. In dieser geschichtswissenschaftlichen Studie werden die Ursprünge der gemeinsamen europäischen Agrarpolitik zwischen 1950 und 1957 auf der Basis bislang unveröffentlichter deutscher, französischer, niederländischer und italienischer Quellen analysiert. Der Autor tritt dem gängigen Vorurteil entgegen, die gemeinsame Agrarpolitik sei als Kompromiß zwischen französischen Agrar- und deutschen Industrieinteressen entstanden. Er weist nach, daß die Ursprünge der gemeinsamen europäischen Landwirtschaftspolitik im Spannungsfeld von sozioökonomischem Wandel, Kaltem Krieg und innenpolitischen Interessenkonflikten der EWG-Gründungsmitglieder liegen.
