Die Arbeit ist disziplinĂŒbergreifend angelegt. Ihr erster Teil gilt der philosophischen, sprachtheoretischen und sprachwissenschaftlichen Bestimmung der Kontexte bzw. Umfelder von sprachlichen Texten. In kritischer Orientierung insbesondere an den Umfeldtheorien von K. BĂŒhler und E. Coseriu gelangt sie zur Unterscheidung von drei elementaren, d.h. zugleich fĂŒr den Sinn von Texten konstitutiven und aufeinander nicht rĂŒckfĂŒhrbaren Typen: dem realen Situationskontext, dem sprachlichen Rede- bzw. Diskurskontext, den subjektiven Wissenskontexten der kommunizierenden Personen. Ihr zweiter, literaturwissenschaftlich geöffneter Teil gilt dem Versuch, diese Distinktionen textanalytisch anzuwenden. Anhand ausgewĂ€hlter Werke der französischen Literatur (Werke von Racine, Balzac, Flaubert, Baudelaire, Marcel BĂ©alu, RenĂ© de Obaldia) wird exemplarisch gezeigt, daß das in der mĂŒndlichen Kommunikation unmittelbar gegebene situationelle Umfeld in literarischen Texten suppletiv aufgebaut werden muß und auf welche differenten Weisen die verbale Situationssuppletion in Werken unterschiedlicher Textsortenzugehörigkeit (Roman, Gedicht, Drama) sich sprachlich artikuliert. In dieser Verbindung von Kontexttheorie und Literaturanalyse wird das Konzept der Einheit der Philologie im Sinn einer hermeneutischen Textlinguistik erneuert.
