Description: The Board was established in its present form in 1973. A State Board of Public Accountancy with somewhat different composition and powers was created in 1919. The Board supervises the practice of public accountancy by Certified Public Accountants and Public Accountants in Alabama.

OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
Description: The primary duty of the Attorney General is to serve as legal counsel to Alabamaās state agencies, departments, and officers. Our office is prohibited by law from providing private citizens with legal advice, representation, or opinions (Code of Alabama, 1975, Title 36, Chapter 15). The Attorney Generalās Office does not handle any domestic cases (example: child support, child custody, divorce, etc.) or probate matters (real estate, wills, property disputes, etc.).

STATE BANKING DEPARTMENT
Description: The State Banking Department is the state agency that charters, regulates, and examines banks, and trust companies chartered by the State of Alabama. The Department also has regulatory and licensing authority over lenders, mortgage brokers, payday lenders, and pawnshops conducting business in Alabama.

DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE
Description: The Alabama Department of Finance is more than just dollars and cents. With thirteen divisions and more than five hundred employees, Finance claims a myriad of responsibilities. From formulating the Governorās annual budgets to maintaining the grounds of the capitol complex in downtown Montgomery, the Alabama Department of Finance leaves its mark on state government. The state finance director, appointed by the Governor, leads the Department. He is the chief financial officer of the state and the Governorās advisor in all financial matters. He is responsible for the oversight of each of the Departmentās divisions, and is charged with protecting the financial interests of Alabama.

DEPARTMENT OF FINANCEāFINANCE ACCOUNTING DIVISION
Description: The Finance Accounting Division provides accounting services for the Department of Finance and its twelve divisions. Finance Accounting provides monthly financial statements for each division and is responsible for ensuring ethical and accurate accounting of taxpayer money in the Department of Finance.

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
Description: At press time, Robert Bentley is in his second term as Alabamaās chief executive. He continues to be committed to creating jobs for the people of Alabama. In 2010, he was elected the 53rd Governor of the state of Alabama on his promise to put Alabamians back to work. When Governor Bentley took office in 2011, the stateās unemployment rate was 9.3 percent. Governor Bentley promised the people of Alabama he would not accept a salary until the State reached full employment (5.2 percent unemployment). To date, Governor Bentley has never accepted a salary as Governor.

LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY
Description: The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) was created by Act 2013-67 and represents the consolidation and realignment of twelve state law enforcement agencies/functions into one entity. ALEA is responsible for the functions and missions of the Alabama Department of Homeland Security, Department of Public Safety, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Fusion Center, Criminal Justice Information Center, Marine Police, Alcoholic Beverage Control Board Enforcement Division, Department of Revenue Enforcement, Forestry Commission Investigations, Agriculture and Industry Investigations, Public Service Commission Enforcement, and Office of Prosecution Services Computer Forensic Laboratories. The Mission of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is to efficiently provide quality service, protection, and safety for the State of Alabama through the utilization of consolidated law enforcement, investigative, and support services.
