Introduction

On this book were going to discuss the many tools available that can transform anyone into a powerhouse of a communicator and persuader!
To be an effective communicator, one needs to become competent at both the mindsets and the actual communication skillsets. Mastery of what is within and without! You can be trained in the mechanics or every imaginable presenting or communication techniques, but if you’re knees are trembling? You won’t be able to deliver the message powerfully and generate the desired effects!

Power of visualization

For you to exude your best and realize your full potential, you have two see that reality happening in your mind by first visualizing exactly the ideal situation you would like to happen! Imagine in great detail how your voice resonates, the effects your getting from the audience, your eloquence with words, perfect timing and other nuances that give you that sought after powerful communications.
This is also a good way to rehearse the steps you're going to go through to execute that perfect communication or presentation. You can do visualizations or you can do affirmations it's up to you but overall visualizations are more desirable because you get to live in that virtual reality and gain some familiarity with what you're about to do. When the real thing happens? It all feels so familiar and organic!
There have been studies that show people who rehearse mentally performed much better, scored higher in terms of athletic performances by using visualization techniques alone.
A study conducted by Dr. Blaslotto at the University of Chicago was done where he split people into three groups and tested each group on how many free throws they could make.
After this, he had the first group practice free throws every day for an hour.
The second group just visualized themselves making free throws.
The third group did nothing.
After 30 days, he tested them again.
The first group improved by 24%.

The second group improved by 23% without touching a basketball!
Again you are building in advance those neural connections prior to the actual event. The next time you actually do it? It is now a little more polished. So with any activity , your second and succeeding tries are going to be more polished than the first attempt!
It also lets you do a dry run this in your head and see the potential problems that may arise in how you're going to deal with them.
When you visualize, try to actually be there! See, hear, feel the experience of being there, talking and feeling your voice in your chest, the reverberations off your voice, the feelings of the couch on your butt, the air conditioning, how your audience is responding, the heart palpitations etc. In other words, just be there! Make the visualizations reap maximal benefits by increasing the quality of your visualizations! The more realistic it is, the better.

Visualizations as a simulation

Just like SWAT officers to a dry run whenever possible in a room they call a "kill house", it gives them muscle memory and familiarity with the situation they are about to face. Even though they may face a particular scenario for the first time? We'll perform like they've done it countless times before!

Quick Time

Do this several times and to further save time you can run it in Quick time! Don't sacrifice speed for quality in the virtual experience. You still have to experience all the states and environmental conditions and sensations when you're running that simulation in your mind. But once you get good at it? You can run it faster and faster thus saving time. And the more times you do it, the better it gets, the more Neural connections are formed and the more virtual experiences gained.
For more on this I recommend “The Art of Virtual practice” which talks specifically about this concept.

The value of preparation

Thorough preparation is key to powerful persuasions and presentations. It is about sorely rehearsing the material over and over-just like in a theater play-that every word rolls off your tongue effortlessly. You thoroughly have internalized the speech not just the words but the delivery. When you are about to present to the audience, I highly suggests really internalizing everything that it has indeed become a part of you! Knowing the material or the actual presentation you're about to give and knowing it by heart is convincing!
Being an expert in that field, not necessarily just in the area you're going to be presenting is even better! This is easy and does not require special effort to be presenting in your area of expertise.
You're going to be presenting on let's say genetic cloning for example and you been studying this area for a decade, even conducting talks and having taught this to dozens of people? You'd be an expert at this, and it shows! If you're only presenting a minor area of that subject? You'll involuntarily extrude a powerful kind of unshakable confidence that you know everything about it!
You'd have the calm confidence and expertise to answer any concerns related to your area of expertise. When presenting that piece, having a deeper background or firmly rooted into the subject or area, will subcommunicate that anything you say is just the tip of the iceberg. That tiny piece of real estate of floating ice (they perceive) has 300 feet off solid iceberg underneath backing it up! It's a strong and powerful subtext people can just feel!
If you are just going to present something and have a limited knowledge in that field? What I suggest is you again master your particular small piece that you absolutely know it by heart and try to study up on the interconnected areas that may be touched on by your piece or presentation. If you're pressed for time, you can just speed read times off similar documents related to your piece. The idea is to make yourself as dense and solid as possible and cram as much universal information surrounding the main piece! You can't go wrong by doing that, even if what you studied for does not come up during the presentations, it will add confidence.

Faking it to make it

If you don't have the expertise yet, and you just want to have the intangible forceful quality to your vocalizations or delivery of speech? You can again use the power of visualization but this time you're going to pretend you've actually spent decades studying this field-hence a legitimate expert. Though you have sparse knowledge in the area or subject? Your nonverbals and sub communications will at least communicate something else. You'll come off like an expert without verbally saying so!
The bottom line is to appear like you know the hell you are talking about! Not just appear but be a legitimate one if possible. If not? At the very least maximize available time to cultivate your knowledge in the field prior to the presentation.

Values Elicitation

This is a high level NLP technique where you get to really persuade and communicate to any person on his deepest, most important, core values! With this technique your talking directly to his core and using his language.
In a presentation for example let's assume you want to sell electronic cigarettes. You can begin by asking the person what criteria what this person ace looking for in an Electronic-cigarette? As he proceeds to give you his criteria, try to go deeper down further on any or all of those criteria until you reach the end. Let's say the client or prospect says he wants an electronic cigarette that is sturdy among other things. Dig down into the sturdy aspect for now, and ask him what does he mean by sturdy and what benefits does it give him?
He might say that he always manages to break his Electronic cigarettes in the past by dropping them accidentally.
So by having a really sturdy cigarette that doesn't break easily, that he won't be concerned about it breaking anymore, what benefits does it give him?
He'll go well he won't have to spend any more money because money is tight nowadays!
So money's tight and this is your only purchase, you won't have to purchase electronic cigarettes anymore, what benefits does that give you then?
He tells you that it gives him a sense of security and safety that what he has will last him a very long time!
So what benefit does having a sense of security and an electronic cigarette that last a long time give him? So on and so forth until he starts repeating the same values he already said previously which indicates or is a clue that you've reached the absolute end!
If digging deeper down several levels deep, he repeats that it gives him a sense of security and safety? Then by then you'll know you've reached the end, and is holding his most important criteria for that particular product.
You can then customize your pitch or presentation to focus entirely on how he worded the criteria he gave you.

Words are just words

Because you now know your pitch will focus on your product’s sturdiness and toughness etc. You are now speaking his language!
You must understand however that 3 people will have a different internal experience one meaning for the word "sturdy"!
One person's sturdy may just mean that it can stand many accidental droppings to the floor(exactly what the prospect defined). Another person may define sturdy as just being rust proof and he couldn't care less if it's tough when dropped on the floor. Another person may just mean that it lasts him two years and concerns about the unit dropping or if it's rust proof isn't really a big concern because he's very careful and his house is fully carpeted so dropping the unit accidentally is not an issue etc..
If you notice each of those people used the very same word and yet if we really pursued and explored? In reality they are actually talking about different things!
Understand that about words and that they are not real but just representations of complex concepts and feelings which we approximate with the use of language. Doing values elicitation is making the prospect give us the keys to the kingdom! He's telling us exactly what he wants and how he represents the idea in his mind, and his own personal universe.
Don't assume you know what they truly want unless you have no choice due to time constraints you need to make your presentations fast and make general assumptions which may ...
