Ne aveva scritto a suo tempo all'autore il compianto Giorgio Bárberi Squarotti: "Caro Pagliarino, ho letto con vivo interesse questa galleria di ritratti di personaggi di un quartiere torinese, quasi una specie di "antologia di Spoon River" di vivi (con qualche morto), raccontata dall'autore - testimone nel verso di ampio respiro, ben modulato e scandito, da cui i volti umani, le tragedie, le situazioni paradossali e grottesche vengono fuori con efficace rilievo. Spesso l'attacco fa pensare a Pavese: con un che di ben più cupo e desolato, tuttavia."
