Amazonâs Alexa assistant has announced one of its new features in development is that it can understand human emotions, and a robot is being created to judge gymnastics in Tokyoâs 2020 Olympics. With so much investment and interest in driverless technology, itâs even possible the children of tomorrow may never need to learn to drive. The internet is an ever-expanding and increasingly more omnipresent part of the fabric of society. Our world is gaining more access points in more places, connecting billions of people to the collective knowledge of mankind.Â
As the world ushers in an era of technological innovation, ironically, it begins to need to humanise. True, machines and software can often outperform people at tasks with more efficiency, but the execution lacks artistry and emotion which comes from being human. Showing emotion, and the ability to tell stories, will give you a huge advantage in this new digital era.Â
Nowadays there are more women in the workplace, which is changing the face of business. Did you know that women account for 85% of all consumer purchases and that women control over $20 Trillion in worldwide spending?
Hereâs some interesting stats on what women are the key decision makers for, and buyers of; 91% of new homes, 66% of PCs, 92% of vacations, 80% of health care, 65% of new cars, 89% of bank accounts, 93% of food, 93% of pharmaceuticals.
So there are many different things that need to be taken into account when youâre marketing your product or service. Is your current marketing approach working when selling to women? Or is it geared towards men? If it doesnât have a strong appeal to women then you are losing a huge part of the market share.
You see, statistically speaking, 80% of start-up businesses fail in the ďŹrst ďŹve years, and of that remaining 20%, a further 80% of them fail in the next ďŹve years.
This is the sad truth about running a business, so you need to be very serious about the marketing of your business and take a proactive approach every day.
Having been hands-on in branding, marketing and creative thinking for innovative brands, I have witnessed this change and I believe that some things will remain fundamental â communication will continue to be one of them. Itâs my belief that standing apart in a highly technological future means being more human, more emotionally vulnerable and more empathetic than brands have ever been before.
Most businesses donât know what their customers think. They ignore or underestimate their competitorsâ strengths while overestimating their own. They do too little research to get their message right, and too little marketing to ensure continued growth and proďŹtability of their business.
The combination of delusion and an inaccurate message causes marketplace failure, management, employee, and franchisee dissatisfaction and an ever shrinking bank account. But, you can feel better by blaming the government, interest rates, your staff, the shopping centre management for high rents and not enough business in your store, or your franchisor for not getting you enough clients and for still charging you a royalty every month even when youâre not making any money. Does this sound familiar?
From my 25+ years of business mentoring, consulting and counselling, and while travelling around the world giving seminars and workshops to tens of thousands of people and businesses, thereâs one critical thing that Iâve observed and that stops people becoming truly successful.
