Working with Wires
Learning Objectives
After completing this chapter, you will be able to:
• Insert different types of wires
• Modify inserted wires
• Create wire layers
• Create and manage wire types and their properties
• Insert, erase, hide, fix, and reposition wire numbers
• Insert special wire numbering

introduction
In this chapter, you will learn in detail about the types of wire and wire layers. Also, you will learn how to insert wires in a drawing, modify wires using commands such as trim, stretch, create different wire types in drawings, insert in-line wire markers in wires, insert wire numbers in wires and reposition them, and troubleshoot wires. Later in this chapter, you will learn how to check, repair, trace wire gaps and pointers, and manipulate wire gaps. You will also learn about the source and destination signal arrows in this chapter.

wires
A wire is a stretched out strand of drawn metal and is usually cylindrical in shape. They are used to carry electricity and telecommunication signals. The standard size of a wire is determined by wire gauge.
Wires are AutoCAD lines when they are placed on an AutoCAD Electrical defined wire layer. By default, the WIRES wire layer is present in a drawing. In AutoCAD Electrical, you can create as many wire layers as you want. You can also assign wire numbers to the wires that will be included in various wire connection reports. Two wire segments or a wire segment and a component are said to be connected if they fall within a trap distance of any part of the other wire segment or component. If more than one wires are connected together, it forms a wire network. In the next section, you will learn about the types of wires and the insertion of wires in drawings.
Inserting Wires into a Drawing
In this section, you will learn about different types of wires and will also learn to insert them in a drawing. You can insert wire segments on a wire layer horizontally, vertically, or angled at 22.5, 45, or 67.5 degrees.
Inserting Single Wire
Ribbon: Schematic > Insert Wires/Wire Numbers > Wire drop-down > Wire
Toolbar: ACE:Main Electrical > Insert Wire or ACE:Wires > Insert Wire
Menu: Wires > Insert Wire
Command: AEWIRE
The Wire tool is used to insert wires. To insert a wire, choose the Wire tool from the Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel of the Schematic tab; you will be prompted to specify the start point of the wire. You can either select a point using the pointing device or...
