SAP Activate, a project management framework to implement SAP S/4HANA, is an intelligent innovation as a service, which is pioneered on three pillars: SAP Best Practices, guided configuration, and one methodology. This chapter will introduce the SAP Activate methodology, including the three pillars; fit-to-standard analysis; key characteristics; structure, including the different phases of the methodology; and the roles and responsibilities of the project team. The main differences between SAP Activate and the ASAP methodology—the prior version of project management methodology to implement SAP ERP—will be summarized in this chapter followed by some important terms and questions and answers to test your understanding.
Real-World Scenario
After you completed your graduation in retail management three years ago, you joined a major chain of clothing store as a subject matter expert (SME). You’ve also worked as a software developer in a regional retail organization for two years prior to starting your graduation.
You learned that the company has decided to implement a major enterprise resource planning (ERP) system called SAP S/4HANA. As a student, you were always fascinated to work on the SAP platform, and this is your big chance. You approached your supervisor to speak about this opportunity.
