Mock It Up In InVision

Introduction

20 years ago, I spent over a week building my first website. It was HTML coded and I learned how to do it by reading a book from the library. Today, I could mockup that same website in just a few hours using a tool like InVision.

What is InVision? Let me break it down in the simplest terms. InVision lets you upload an image and then hyperlink it to other images. What you are left with is a highly interactive image that behaves much like a website.

What benefit does this give you? Coding a website or product takes a lot of time. Using InVision to build a mock-up gives you something that’s very close to your final product so you can test it with your stakeholders.

To give you a real-world example: several years ago, I was in a startup accelerator (think of it like a business crash course). I had an idea, but didn’t exactly have the funds to hire a developer to build it out. I needed to show potential advisors and investors mock-ups that would help them understand what we wanted to do.

Three months later, with zero workable product, we had the investment we needed to build our MVP.
