If God should undertake

To shield my soul from harm

What foe can Him withstand?

Who has a stronger arm?

From Psalm 37:13

“The Lord shall laugh at him. . . . ”

Laugh at my foes

who think they will

harm Your poor child,

destroy her still.

Or better yet,

in mercy great

rescue these folks

from their sad state.

Snatch from the fire,

who did me smite.

Grant them Your mercy

in Your might.

Let not the Foe

fulfill his will:

Save me and these,

I beg You still.

Father, Forgive Them

“Forgive them, Father, they know not

the evil thing they do.”

You spoke these words upon the cross

when they were killing You.

And Stephen begged for mercy too

for those that killed him all,

and in that mob there stood Your saint

at that time known as Saul

About to meet the risen Christ

Who did not like the way

His little ones were done to death

and intervened that day.

Upon the road where Saul breathed out

his rage and vile intent,

the risen Savior intervened

and saved him as he went.

So those that smite with evil will

perhaps may yet become

when You have risen in Your strength

those You will welcome home.

So give me gentleness and grace

to see beyond the wrong

and for their souls and Your great Grace

with all my heart to long.
