About this book
Anhand von fünf exemplarisch gewählten Inszenierungen der Wallenstein-Trilogie Schillers untersucht die Studie systematisch, wie sich die historisierende Bühnenpraxis auf dem deutschen Theater des 19. Jahrhunderts durchgesetzt hat. Die Analyse stützt sich auf ein umfangreiches, bislang kaum ausgewertetes Text und Bildmaterial. Sie zeigt, wie die Forderung nach historischer Treue immer mehr die Gestaltung u. a. von Kostümen und Bühnenbildern beeinflusst hat. Höhe- und Endpunkt dieser Entwicklung auf der Bühne markieren die Wallenstein-Inszenierungen der Meininger 1882 und Max Reinhardts 1914.
