Die einzelnen Kapitel dieses Buches befassen sich mit den gängigen Verfahren der audiovisuellen Übersetzung wie intralingualer und interlingualer Untertitelung, Voice-over Übersetzung, Synchronisation, Audiodeskription für Blinde und Filmdolmetschen. Der Leser wird über die Entwicklung dieser Verfahren ebenso informiert wie über die derzeit gängigen technischen Möglichkeiten und die eigentlichen Aufgaben des Übersetzers in den jeweiligen Arbeitsabläufen. Der didaktische Teil besteht einerseits aus Übungen, mit denen diese Aufgaben eingeübt werden können, andererseits aus Hinweisen zu aktuellen Forschungsfragen. Das Buch eignet sich sowohl zum Selbststudium als auch zum Einsatz im Unterricht.
