2014 griff der IS die Hauptsiedlungsgebiete der YezidInnen in Syrien und dem Irak an und löste eine beispiellose Flucht- und Migrationswelle aus. Völlig neue kulturelle, soziale und religiöse Bedingungen haben zu umfassenden Transformationsprozessen geführt: zentrale religiöse Inhalte, Identitätskonstruktionen auf der Basis von Nationalität, Kultur, Geschlecht werden potenziert, fragmentiert und wieder neu zusammengesetzt. Enträumlichung und Entgrenzung von (religiösen) Identitäten in einer von Säkularisierung geprägten neuen Umgebung prägen das yezidische Leben in Deutschland. Auf Grundlage der hoch aktuellen Theorie des Spatial Turn untersucht Thorsten Wettich die yezidische Gemeinschaft in Niedersachsen und leistet so einen signifikanten Beitrag für die noch junge Disziplin der empirisch arbeitenden Yezidologie.
