Los artículos que integran el presente libro fueron producidos en el marco de la investigación "Disección de series dramáticas de televisión: abordajes narrativos y técnico-realizativo del primer capítulo (o piloto)", desarrollada en la Universidad Nacional de Villa María, con subsidio del Instituto de Investigación durante el periodo 2010-2011. En esta pesquisa se describieron e interpretaron las modalidades en que series dramáticas de televisión estadounidense de reconocida calidad conjugaban los aspectos narrativos y realizativos a través de una cuidada caracterización de los personajes; la contaminación genérica; la multiplicidad de las historias por episodio; el protagonismo coral; los efectos formales del cine verité en muchos casos; el carácter laberíntico de sus mundos ficcionales; y el cuestionamiento de algunos de los tópicos culturales e ideológicos heredados de la televisión precedente. Para dichos análisis se trabajó con los episodios pilotos de Mad Men, House M.D., Damages, The Soprano, Lost, Flashfoward, y Hill Street Blues.
