Der vorliegende Band versammelt Beiträge zur kunstarten- und gattungsübergreifenden Rezeption der "Divina Commedia". Dass Dantes Werk bis in die Gegenwart hinein eine besondere Anziehungskraft ausübt, belegen zahlreiche Bearbeitungen für die Bühne. Doch auch im Bereich des Comics und der Buchillustration zeigt sich - wie aktuelle Beispiele verdeutlichen - eine breit gestreute Auseinandersetzung unterschiedlicher Künstler mit der Divina Commedia. Einen weiteren Schwerpunkt des Bandes bilden die Beiträge zu früheren Rezeptionsphasen, wobei der (Musik-)Dramatik besondere Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet wird. Daneben wird der Faszination nachgegangen, die Dante auf herausragende Vertreter der neueren europäischen Literatur ausübte. Weitere Studien befassen sich mit bedeutenden Prätexten aus der Antike.Dem Band ist eie DVD mit ergänzenden Materialien beigelegt. Sie enthält neben Videoausschnitten zu dem Beitrag "Dante, 'Francesca da Rimini' und das Erinnern im italienischen Melodramma" eine umfangreiche Bibliographie zur musikalischen Rezeption von Dante und seinem Werk. Der Thematik der Bildrezeption widmet sich der Beitrag "Mainzer Drucker in Italien und die früheren Ausgaben der Divina Commedia", aus dem sich weitere Perspektiven auf die Kanonbildung und die "questione della lingua" an der Wende zum Cinquecento ergeben.
