Han pasado más de veinte años desde el momento en que el libro El mercadeo social en Colombia, del profesor Yaromir Muñoz, salió a la luz pública. Muchos estudiantes y profesores, de diferentes universidades colombianas, han estudiado aquel libro y lo han enriquecido con la divulgación de diversos trabajos investigativos, como monografías de grado, ejercicios investigativos de nivel de maestría, artículos publicados en revistas indexadas y aplicaciones prácticas en muchos sectores de la economía. En aquel entonces fue necesario destinar casi cien páginas a la justifica-ción del marketing social, que aún no lograba tener una identidad bajo el cobijo de la disciplina del marketing. Esas páginas buscaban justificar el concepto, darle validez en la práctica, evitar que se le viera como un arma disfrazada para que sectores privados tuvieran más ventas, y también que se desligara del concepto de responsabilidad social corporativa.
