Gängige Sprachförderkonzepte, die derzeit in Kindertagesstätten zum Einsatz kommen, konzentrieren sich primär auf die Förderung von Syntax und Wortschatz und sind häufig dialogisch ausgerichtet. Um bereits vorhandenes implizites Textwissen aktivierend herauszufordern, bietet es sich an, Kinder zu monologischen Textproduktionen anzuregen. Diesen Ansatz wählt diese Studie, in der Vorschulkinder aufgefordert wurden, ein ihnen bekanntes Bilderbuch "vorzulesen". Die Datenerhebung zu diesem als Pretend Reading bekannten Verfahren erfolgte in vier Durchgängen und in jeweils an das gezeigte Sprachhandeln der Kinder angepassten und modifizierten Settings. Die Auswertungsergebnisse verweisen eindrücklich auf das vielversprechende Potenzial des Pretend Reading zur Sprachförderung. Die Funktion der Musterhaftigkeit für eigene Textproduktion wird dabei besonders betont.
