Il testo che offriamo qui costituisce una nuova traduzione del dramma La Dame aux CamÊlias di Alexandre Dumas figlio, rappresentato per la prima volta il 2 febbraio del 1852 al ThÊâtre du Vaudeville di Parigi. Un'edizione piÚ completa del dramma, corredata di un saggio introduttivo e di una postfazione, è in preparazione per la collana Il canone drammatico europeo. Testi e performance, diretta da Annamaria Cascetta per le edizioni ETS di Pisa.
Il testo di cui ci siamo servite per questa traduzione è quello dell'edizione completa e definitiva del teatro di Dumas fils, da lui stesso rivista nel 1868. Per le modifiche apportate da Dumas al proprio testo rimandiamo alla futura edizione: un'analisi attenta e affidabile del problema è stata comunque approntata da Simona Brunetti, cui rimandiamo.
