รœber dieses Buch

Imam Nawawi's commentary on Sahih Muslim is one of the most highly regarded works in Islamic thought and literature.

Accepted by every sunni school of thought, and foundational in the Shaafi school, this text, available for the first time in English, is famed throughout the Muslim world.

After the Qur'an, the prophetic traditions are the most recognised source of wisdom in Islam. Amongst the collected Hadith, Sahih Muslim is second only to the the collection of Imam Bukhari.

With a commentary by Imam Nawawi, whose other works are amongst the most widely-read books on Islam, and translated by Adil Salahi, a modern scholar of great acclaim, this immense work, finally available to English readers, is an essential addition to every Muslim library, and for anybody with an interest in Islamic thought.

CHAPTER i
THE HADITH ON INTERCESSION
[345โ€“322]. (Dar al-Salam 0373) Abu Kamil Fudayl ibn Husayn al-Jahdari and Muhammad ibn [Ubayd al-Gubari narratedii (and this is Abu Kamilโ€™s text). They said: Abu [Awanah narrated; from Qatadah; from Anas ibn Malik: โ€˜Godโ€™s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: โ€œGod gathers people on the Day of Judgement and they are eager for it, (Ibn uUbayd said: โ€˜and they are inspired by itโ€™). They will say: โ€˜Perhaps we should seek intercession with our Lord so that He will relieve us of this position of oursโ€™. They will go to Adam (peace be upon him) and say: โ€˜Adam, you are the father of all mankind. God created you with His own hand and blew of His spirit in you. He ordered the angels and they prostrated themselves before you. Intercede with your Lord on our behalf so that He will relieve us of this position of oursโ€™. He will say: โ€˜I am not fit for thatโ€™. He remembers the mistake he committed and he is too ashamed of it before his Lord. He says: โ€˜Go to Noah, the first messenger God sentโ€™. They go to Noah (peace be upon him) and he says: โ€˜I am not fit for thatโ€™. He remembers the mistake he committed and he is too ashamed of it before his Lord. He says: โ€˜Go to Abraham (peace be upon him) whom God made His friendโ€™. They go to Abraham (peace be upon him) but he says: โ€˜I am not fit for thatโ€™. He remembers the mistake he committed and he is too ashamed of it before his Lord. He says: โ€˜Go to Moses. He was the one to whom God spoke directly and He gave him the Torahโ€™. They go to Moses (peace be upon him) but he says: โ€˜I am not fit for thatโ€™. He remembers the mistake he committed and he is too ashamed of it before his Lord. He says: โ€˜Go to Jesus: He is Godโ€™s spirit and His wordโ€™. They go to Jesus: Godโ€™s spirit and His word, but he says: โ€˜I am not fit for that, but go to Muhammad: Godโ€™s servant who has had his earlier and later sins forgivenโ€™.โ€
โ€˜Godโ€™s Messenger (peace be upon him) added: โ€œThey come to me. I seek permission to see my Lord and I am granted permission. When I see Him, I prostrate myself. He leaves me [in this position] as He wills. Then I am told: โ€˜Muhammad, lift your head. Say and you will be heard; request and your request will be granted; intercede and your intercession will be acceptedโ€™. I lift my head and I praise my Lord with praises He teaches me. I then make my intercession. He will give me a certain limit and I bring those [before it] from the Fire and take them to Heaven. I go back and prostrate myself. He leaves me [in this position] as He wills. Then I am told: โ€˜Muhammad, lift your head. Speak and you will be heard; request and your request will be granted; intercede and your intercession will be acceptedโ€™. I lift my head and I praise my Lord with praises He teaches me. I then make my intercession. He will give me a certain limit and I bring those [within the limit] out of the Fire and take them to Heaven. (The narrator said: I am not sure whether at the third or fourth time the Prophet says): I will say: โ€˜My Lord, none remains in the Fire except those detained there by the Qurโ€™an, which means those condemned to perpetual stayโ€™โ€.โ€™ (Ibn uUbayd said in his narration: Qatudah said: which means those condemned to abide.)
